Frequently Asked Questions
What is a cryosauna?
The JUKA Cryosauna is a state of the art machine that administers whole body cryotherapy. It is a natural and safe therapy that uses nitrogen cooled air to stimulate the body’s natural response to cold. This response decreases inflammation, promotes healing, and increases metabolism. Whole body cryotherapy can even lead to the reduction of medication needed to manage acute and chronic pain.
What do I need to bring to my cryotherapy session?
Nothing! For whole body cryotherapy, we supply socks, slippers, gloves, and a robe. Clients are only permitted to wear the socks that we provide. Women typically wear a bra and underwear during treatment, but may go naked. Men wear their underwear or underwear and athletic shorts. Clothing worn in the cryosauna must be dry. We recommend bringing a dry set of clothes if you are sweaty or wet, but we do have hair dryers in each changing room that clients are permitted to use to help dry off. Clients do not need to wear anything specific for localized cryotherapy, however, the area that will be receiving localized cryotherapy must be exposed during the treatment.
How does whole body cryotherapy work?
The cryosauna uses cryogenic nitrogen vapors to lower the skin's surface temperature by 30-50 degrees in under 3 minutes. Receptors on the skin react to the cold by sending messages to the brain, which stimulate regulatory functions of the body. This also triggers the release of anti-inflammatory chemicals (endorphins), increases oxygen in the blood, and releases toxins.
Is whole body cryotherapy safe?
Yes! Our cryosauna uses nitrogen. Nitrogen is a non-toxic gas that does not react with any other gases. 78% of the air we breathe is actually nitrogen! Our highly trained staff walks each client through the entire cryotherapy process. Our clients are not left unattended and we make sure each client has a thorough understanding of the rules prior to the treatment. Problems may arise if a client enters the cryosauna with wet skin or wet clothing. Therefore, we provide dry socks, slippers, gloves and robes to all of our clients. Clients must wear the socks that we provide. Hair dryers and towels are also available in each changing room for the convenience of our clients.
How will I feel after using whole body cryotherapy?
During each session, the body releases "feel good" hormones called endorphins. These cause a boost of energy and help reduce pain. Clients have reported decreased pain as quickly as immediately after treatment. Clients have also commented that they are able to fall asleep quicker and/or stay asleep longer.
Should I exercise before or after whole body cryotherapy?
This is based on personal preference, but whole body cryotherapy can be used before or after exercise.
If I am claustrophobic can I use the cryosauna?
Yes! The door is never locked, a Cryo Technician is with you throughout the entire treatment, and we use a lift to raise you so that your head is out of the cryosauna. You can request to step out at any time.
